Independence and support

A mission people can question.

Being open about who supports us, how we recommend tools and what still needs to be put in place is part of earning trust.

Who supports Ownbeing.

SEED is our founding member and main sponsor. We welcome other funding members, sponsors and contributors who support a public-interest mission: protecting people’s identity and data, making AI understandable and giving people a voice in its future.

Ownbeing and SEED have different roles. SEED is a company developing private-vault tools. Ownbeing’s guidance must remain useful to people who never use those tools, including people who refuse an avatar.

We will publish confirmed funding arrangements and oversight appointments here as they are established. A funding breakdown and independent committee appointments are not yet published here.

The principles we will work by.

  • Support does not buy conclusions. Sponsors should have no veto over our guidance, research questions or recommendations, including criticism of their own products.
  • Disclose relevant interests. Identify financial or professional interests that could affect a contribution. Where a conflict exists, the person concerned should step back from the relevant decision.
  • Recommend for the reader’s benefit. Match a service to the problem, eligibility, cost and permissions required. Include free official routes where they exist. A sponsor’s product should not replace a more suitable alternative.
  • Make commercial relationships visible. Clearly label any future paid placement, referral arrangement or sponsored work where it appears. Ordinary provider links in our protection guide do not imply a partnership.
  • Keep private situations private. Do not give sponsors access to individual support messages or account records. Obtain separate, specific permission before sharing a person’s information with an outside professional.

How individual assistance is considered.

Start with our guides and solution finder whenever you can. You do not need to join, use SEED or contact us to use them.

If you ask for individual help, we consider the urgency and risk of harm, the kind of issue, the relevant location, the expertise needed and our capacity. Sponsorship or interest in a sponsor’s product must not determine access to help.

We will explain the support we can offer, any proposed fee or outside-provider cost, and the next step before you commit. There is no charge to read our guides or send an initial inquiry. We do not promise a response deadline, successful removal or legal representation through this inbox.

Legal representation, if appropriate and available, requires a separate agreement with qualified lawyers. For an account takeover, financial fraud or immediate danger, use the relevant provider or local emergency channel rather than waiting for an email reply.

Help us make the work accountable.

Our next governance work is to confirm independent oversight, publish the people and responsibilities involved, and make funding disclosures useful. These are commitments in progress, not claims of external certification.

If you see an error, a missing alternative or a conflict we should disclose, tell us the page and what needs to change. You can also ask how to contribute expertise or support the mission.
